WHITSUNDAY COUNCIL OPENS $1.6M DENISON PARK FACILITY UPGRADE

Bowen, QLD — The Whitsunday Regional Council and the Queensland Government have officially unveiled a transformative $1.6 million amenities upgrade at Denison Park, setting a new benchmark for community sport infrastructure in the region.

The upgraded facilities include:
• Modern change rooms
• A fully equipped gym
• A versatile boardroom
• Accessible toilets and showers
• Expanded support zones for growing teams, including female participation enhancements.

Mayor Ry Collins, in his second year in office, officiated the launch and emphasized the role of such upgrades in strengthening community and sporting life.

This isn’t just a numbers exercise—this is about putting people first,” said Mayor Collins, highlighting the Council’s commitment

The facility upgrades come alongside a broader strategic shift from the Council toward enhanced liveability and infrastructure. This includes a recent $29.8 million grant for a new Cannonvale Community Hub and Regional Sports Precinct, aiming to future-proof community spaces ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

Facilities at Denison Park now stand as a tangible outcome of this vision—capable of serving juniors, women’s teams, seniors, and community users with upgraded amenities and accessibility.

“This upgrade is about more than just bricks and mortar — it’s about creating a space where future generations can thrive, belong, and grow through sport.”

With modern facilities now in place, Denison Park stands ready to welcome the next chapter of rugby league in Bowen—fitter, brighter, and more united than ever.
