Summer 10s – Everything you need to know
What is the Bowen Summer 10s Carnival?
Founded in 2012 by Bryan Horstman, the Bowen Summer 10s is a rugby league carnival that started to raise funds for cancer research. It now supports local charities and junior rugby league and attracts over 24 teams and 400 players.
When and where is the carnival held?
The 2026 carnival takes place on 28 February 2026 at Denison Park, Bowen.
Who is eligible to play?
Players must be 18 or older by 28 February 2026. 17-year-olds may play with written parental consent. Players over 40 must provide medical clearance from a GP. All players must have an NRL ID and be registered via MySideline by 20 Feb 2026.
How many players and staff are needed per team?
Teams must have a minimum of
12 players and a maximum of
20. Staff must include:
- Coach (NRL-accredited)
- Manager
- League Safe
- Level 1 or 2 Sports Trainer
How much does it cost to nominate a team?
The nomination fee is $380 + GST. This includes a $50 donation to the carnival’s chosen charity. No refunds will be given for withdrawals or disqualified teams.
What are the game rules and format?
- 10 players per side
- 10-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime
- 5 tackles per set
- Unlimited interchange
- Conversions by dropkick (20-second shot clock)
- 3-minute sin bins, send-off = exclusion
- Finals feature golden point
What do team managers need to do?
Managers must:
- Enter players into the Google Sheet provided
- Submit final team lists via MySideline
- Ensure all team members are eligible and registered by the deadline
What facilities are available on site?
- Canteen and food trucks
- Ice available from 8:30am at the bar
- 1 x 6x3m gazebo allowed per team (setup from Friday 2pm)
- Live scoring via the MySideline App
- No alcohol outside licensed areas
- No smoking, vaping, dogs, or scooters permitted
